adrien living a life where it’s very likely that at some point he will be standing at a podium and giving an acceptance speech and like, among everyone he would want to thank he is terrified of the possibility that he will get to this point in his life and he will not be able to thank ladybug because he can’t just say “thank you to my best friend (secret love of my life) ladybug” without it coming across as weird so he like
begs
ladybug as chat noir for a name, any name, in the event that this happens and she’s like lol okay whatever chat sure you’ll be on a big stage one day giving an acceptance speech so she rattles off a random name
fast forward to the not-so-unlikely day that this happens and adrien is up on stage and gives his speech and he’s like
“and finally i would like to say thank you to the best thing that’s ever happened to me. To the person who has seen me through it all, even if they don’t know it, _________.”
and marinette is watching at home with all their friends and she just
Based on the song 'About You' by The 1975. Memory Loss. Told in alternating time lines, one leading up to and one dealing with the aftermath of Marinette relinquishing the Miracle Box and the guardianship. Marinette struggles with her life after losing her memory, though there is a persistent voice that calls to her that always seems just out of reach in her memory.
After defeating Monarch, the search for the Peacock Miraculous brings Ladybug and Chat Noir to a hotel room in London. But it's hard to enjoy the victory when Ladybug can't figure out why Chat's been so quiet, why he seems so sad. How's she supposed to help if she has no idea what's wrong?
Marinette lives a simple life - one surrounded by pretty dresses, fresh macaroons, and the calming view of Paris. It's a life she thinks she has always fit in.
And yet sometimes, when a certain boy comes by her shop with a flower and a new adventurous story, she can't help but wonder if there's something else she's missing.
They didn’t remember each other. The hospital told them there’d been an accident—brain damage—but Alya had told them the truth, later. Who’d they’d been to each other. What they’d given up, and why.
But even with their memories of each other gone, Adrien and Marinette are still inextricably tied together—by law, by their social circles, and by their hearts.
And in the apartment they share, there's only one bed.
Working their way up to a settled adulthood, Marinette and Adrien, now 23, gain a reason to believe that they are expecting—way earlier than they ever planned. Still unwed, it evokes a revelation on Adrien’s behalf.
She thought “you and me against the world” had sounded like lopsided odds before, when she hadn’t even dreamed “you against me” was a possibility. Or maybe she had dreamed it, but at least in those dreams he’d had cold blue eyes and a stark white mask.
The villain she’d fought today had looked at her through her partner’s own bright green eyes.
Marinette couldn’t figure out Chat Noir. He was supposed to be her partner, but instead ended up working for Hawk Moth. Still, her heart betrayed her and when a strong connection forms between them, Ladybug goes to Chat looking for answers, finding out more than she bargained for.
“You’re looking awfully deep in thought today, minou.” Ladybug’s gloved hand stroked over his hair and Chat Noir closed his eyes with an unstable breath.
He got like this sometimes. Lately, it had been getting worse.
Or: Gabriel likes using the rings to order his son around. After a while, it starts having effects on Chat Noir as well. (The more often Gabriel commands Adrien to act a certain way, the more it gets ingrained in his mentality. He suffers because of it.)
If he were to describe her, he’d say that they bottled summer in her eyes, and painted the night sky in her hair. Her lips are curved into a wistful smile, eyes trailing the thicket of trees where Adrien stands.
Her gaze sets his heart stuttering in his chest as it softens, and Adrien almost believes that look is meant for him.”
OR: A pair of lovers create a romance that transcends time, and leaves a mark like no other.
Nadja Chamack’s voice greeted Adrien as he sat up straight, wiping his clammy hands on his pants and ignoring the black kwami floating by his shoulder.
“—shocked to see our heroine fall in battle today, taking a direct hit from the akuma just as she detransformed. Parisians are torn between blaming Hawk Moth and Cat Walker for their roles in this tragedy, which ultimately revealed the civilian identity of Ladybug, Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
Adrien turned off the TV and lowered his head as his vision blurred.
After the defeat of Hawkmoth and his accomplice, Chat Noir, Marinette is ready to return to her normal life, but she can't escape Adrien Agreste, who was sentenced to a fate many consider worse than prison: public school. Specifically, her public school.
Still, that doesn't mean she has to interact with him, does it?
Except, if she doesn't... who will?
I hope some of these strike your fancy, I loved all of them!
No matter how you meet him, you will love him. You will fall for every version of him, in every world, in every timeline. I need you to know that.
One-shot. This fic is not nearly popular enough for how AMAZING it is!! After losing her memory, Marinette reads her pre-memory loss letter to herself. This is such a beautiful and hopeful take on the memory loss trope with gorgeous prose and such a loving look at the love square relationship. HIGHLY recommend!
And in the apartment they share, there’s only one bed.
One-shot. Years later, after Adrien and Marinette are MARRIED, they give up their memories and forget each other. And then there’s the painful journey back to loving one another. This one hurtsssss, but it’s so good, and the end is amazing!! I don’t want to spoil it but the echoes of how they fell for each other the first time are just ahhhhhh!!! READ THIS!
A Finding Nemo Akuma shouldn’t be that hard to deal with, right? Clownfish and blue tangs, but nothing life-changing? Adrien didn’t expect the accompanying sentimonster to bring to life one of his worst fears: what would happen if Marinette lost her memory. Maybe it’s temporary, but it feels very real. And suddenly the things he’s been trying to keep hidden from her refuse to stay inside.
Or: Angsty emotional hurt/comfort for day 10 of Kiss Prompt November (minnow).
One-shot. This is gorgeous. I love the way the details of what’s happened over the past few years are woven into the narrative, and Adrien’s breakdown, even after everything, is so sad and fitting. Adrien is terrified of Marinette losing her memory (just like me) and this is done so well.
Marinette is confused, Adrien is stressed, and Ladybug is nowhere to be found.
Or: Ladybug gives up guardianship, and Chat Noir has to suffer the consequences.
One-shot. As usual with this trope, there’s some definite angst involved, but I found the ending more than hopeful! It’s so sweet, and I really loved the role reversal with Chat being on the other side of an act of self sacrifice.
marinette may not remember their first kiss anymore, but she has no doubts that adrien is the man she will spend her life with. amnesia has nothing on her love.
Multi-chapter. This is soft and sweet, despite the premise. I love being in Marinette’s head as she tries to figure out what she’s missing, which of course we already know. And then watching more of the picture come together…it’s really well done, and the ending makes up for the angst, though honestly there’s not a lot of it!
Paris has been haunted by a butterfly supervillain and saved by a ladybug superhero, and Marinette has forgotten the last year of her life.
Two-shot. Read this if you want to suffer. Seriously, it’s so good, but there is only pain for you here. It’s so sad and bittersweet and I legit cried after I finished.
In the day time, she’s Marinette - a normal girl, with a normal life. A normal girl, with a normal life. A normal girl, with…
Multi-chapter. Marinette’s got giant gaps in her memory she’s struggling to understand while Adrien is desperately trying to figure out just what the hell happened to his Lady. Lots of angst and a mystery and this fic is one hell of a ride from start to finish!
“We live in a crazy world where pieces of our lives can be erased like they never even happened. I just wanted to memorize this moment so… so I could keep it, if that makes sense.”
Adrien’s heart gave a little flutter. She wanted to keep this moment, meeting him. She wanted to keep… him.
“I understand exactly what you mean.“
In a world that has created a way to selectively delete memories, no moment is truly safe. So how do you hold on to something when the memory of it is gone?
And how do you keep fighting for someone when you’re the only one who remembers?
Multi-chapter. AU. I normally avoid AUs, but I’m so glad I read this one! I’m not going to lie–this one hurts and I was terrified to read it. But! It’s so well done and we get a happy ending that makes it all worth it!!
Adrien stopped short when he turned the corner, his breath catching in his throat. Gentle thunder crackled overhead, and the sky split in two just as Adrien’s heart had months before. The clouds cried the gentle tears Adrien tried to fight back, because he knew if he started crying, he wouldn’t stop. He tried to move. Tried to force his limbs to flee. But suddenly, it was him who’d forgotten how to function.
He hadn’t expected to see her.
Not here, right around the corner from his usual grocery store. Not today, on the anniversary of their first kiss.
One-shot. I’m not going to lie, this one hurts. The ending can be classified as hopeful, but there’s a lot of hurting…but it’s so well done!
A very accurate depiction of Adrien processing his trauma after finding out Hawk Moth’s true identity. Lots of hurt/comfort, fluff and Adrinette being a married couple without even realising it.
I never get tired of recommending this fic. It’s just so sweet and heartwarming. Please consider giving it a try, even if you’re not into Marichat.
When Chat Noir stumbles upon Marinette holding her kwami, Tikki, he finally figures out that his lady, the girl he loves, is none other than his classmate Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Marinette is terrified that he’s figured out, and she’s not ready to know who he really is, since she’s a firm believer that their identities should be hidden and is scared of the consequences if their identities are revealed. As a compromise, Chat Noir decides to set up a deal, he’ll give Marinette three chances to guess who he really is underneath the mask, and if she doesn’t guess right, he won’t reveal himself. But Chat Noir has full faith that his lady will be able to guess who he is.
A story about Chat Noir falling in love with who his lady is, and Marinette falling in love with Chat and easing her worries about the identity reveal.
She’d gone through this exact moment a million times in her head. Imagined dramatically declaring her love and having him passionately reciprocate. She’d spent hours picturing the way his green eyes would soften and warm as he too declared his undying love for her, before sweeping her off her feet and carrying her off into the sunset. The fantasy always ended this way, the two of them madly in love.
It never ended with Adrien gazing at her blankly, his face smooth and expressionless.
[AU where Marinette succeeds in confessing to Adrien after the events of Frozer, and everything devolves from there.]
Too much angst, hurt and comfort in this two-shot.
Marinette was on a mission. Three weeks into an impromptu reveal, the same three weeks into a relationship with her partner. And yet, they still hadn’t kissed. She didn’t know how much more she could take.
So tonight, she would kiss him. Right on the mouth.
When Alya reveals to the class that Marinette kissed Chat Noir, Adrien is very confused. Why would Marinette lie about kissing him? He decides to take matters into his own hands, and make the rumour a reality.
Adrien realised that having kissed Marinette as Chat Noir was now causing him complications with his now Girlfriend. His attempt to reveal himself however is interrupted when a girl suddenly falls through a portal, and she looks curiously like him. Written for the Miraculous Fanworks Discord.
I know I recommended this fic too many times before and I’ll do it again. Just read it.
Adrien has been struggling to make sense of Marinette for a long time now, but today is especially confusing. Between Nino’s panicked hedging and Marinette’s own verbal gymnastics, he feels like he’s been whipped around by Ladybug’s yo-yo and tied up in knots.
Still, he isn’t going to let some confusion get in the way of their friendship.
Even if things have just gotten really, really confusing.
(it’s the statue scene, from Adrien’s point of view!)
Ladybug decides to talk Chat out of his crush for her by making him realize that he might end up not liking who she was behind the mask. It decidedly goes out of hand pretty quickly.
Very sweet one-shot, you can literally feel Chat Noir’s love for Ladybug through the words.
Thank you for your ask, anon! Hope you found something to read. Happy reading!
“We live in a crazy world where pieces of our lives can be erased like they never even happened. I just wanted to memorize this moment so… so I could keep it, if that makes sense.”
Adrien's heart gave a little flutter. She wanted to keep this moment, meeting him. She wanted to keep… him.
“I understand exactly what you mean."
In a world that has created a way to selectively delete memories, no moment is truly safe. So how do you hold on to something when the memory of it is gone?
And how do you keep fighting for someone when you're the only one who remembers?
Written for @peakwonderfulness ! It wouldn't let me gift to you on AO3 for some reason, but thank you so much for this! I had fun writing it! :)
Fandom: Miraculous Ladybug Pairing: Ladynoir Summary: On her morning run, Marinette spies someone who reminds her too much of Chat Noir. When she falls, he offers her a hand, and realizes that really is her partner- and he recognizes her as Ladybug.
The air nips at her nose as she runs, the cool autumn wind making Marinette glad she chose to bundle up that morning. In a ladybug-spotted hat that Alya had gotten her the previous year, and a new, bright red jacket that her parents had gotten her to match it, she was perfectly warm enough to run without much fear of catching cold. Plus it was sunny out, when it'd been storming the last week- she didn't want to waste it, nor the opportunity to wear the sunglasses she'd made again.
Taking a path outside of her usual running route, she was hoping to find something to inspire her next fashion project. Autumn was one of her favorite times to find inspiration in the way the colors of the trees change, how the warm colors contrast with the cool air, how people begin to change into warmer clothes while trying to hold onto the heat of the summer a little while longer.
It wasn't hard to keep an eye out as she ran; her time as Ladybug made her more vigilant than ever. For the first leg of her run, she made a mental note of different things: couples wearing matching outfits, the few people who properly blended summer and autumn attire, the colors of the city and how the late morning light danced on them.
It's only halfway through her run that she notices him.
Hey, I love your recs sm thank you for them :) I was wondering if you could rec some fics where Marinette tells Chat Noir the boy she loves is Adrien or that he (as Chat finds out)? I don’t really care how it happens but i just want a scene where Marinette as herself tells Chat that Adrien is the boy she loves or something like that. Thank youu <3
Anon, you have NO IDEA of the rabbit hole you sent me down. So first I thought of one specific fic and was going to rec it and a few others and call it a day. But then I had trouble finding the other fics I was thinking of. And then I went on a reading spree. And, anon, these fics are SO GOOD! I loved answering this request 💖 (And thank you! I love that people enjoy my recs 😊😊😊)
“If it weren’t for that other guy, do you think you would have fallen for me?” “Please, chaton,” Marinette said. “Don’t do this to yourself.” “I just want to know.” Softly she said, “It would have been so easy.”
One-shot. This is the fic I thought of right away. It’s a half-reveal fic where Chat knows Ladybug’s identity, but she doesn’t know his, and he’s obviously very interested in the identity of the boy she loves. And then she tells him and his reaction is eeeeeeveryyyyythinggggggg. I love this fic!
Stuck under a collapsed building together, Chat Noir and Marinette have a heart to heart.
One-shot. Another Ladybug half-reveal, but this time they’re trapped together. It’s a pretty rough situation, but the way they open up to each other is really beautiful. And, of course, in opening up, Marinette reveals to Chat that she’s in love with Adrien. This one gives me allll the feelings!
Chat Noir doesn’t get why Ladybug gets to be the best-behaved kid in the world.
She isn’t. She’s too good at finding loopholes.
(Marichat identity reveal fic, set after the episode Christmaster)
One-shot. This fic does feature an identity reveal, but Marinette telling Chat the identity of the boy she loves comes before any of that! They’re ADORABLE and so in character, and I loved Marinette being both embarrassed and embarrassing, and of course the identity reveal was perfect.
Fed up with her inability to string two coherent sentences together in front of a certain schoolmate, Marinette confides in Chat Noir.
Multi-chapter. Like many marichat fics, this one assumes an existing friendship between Marinette and Chat. And when Adrien takes advantage of that friendship to try to figure out why Marinette’s so uncomfortable with Adrien (does she secretly hate him?) she confides in him about her crush. Their characterizations are amazing, and Chatdrien’s reaction to the crush is even better, and there’s an eventual reveal, which is fantastic.
Ladybug expected Chat Noir to try to get closer to her once he discovered she was Marinette. That was what all the Ladynoir fanfiction she’d ever read had prepared her for. What she didn’t expect: Tips on how to ask Adrien out, support for her crush on another boy, and whatever other crazy things were happening right now.
“Pay attention, M'Lady. You’re breathing all wrong again.”
Three-part series. Another half reveal. We don’t actually see Marinette tell Chat she’s in love with Adrien as the focus here is all on the aftermath, but omg it’s so, so good and I love it so much! In case you haven’t yet, I highly recommend @sariahsue’s fics. So many of them have Marinette admitting her feelings, but I limited myself to just the two here.
“So, beads, huh? For… a lucky charm?” Chat guessed.
Marinette nodded. “Two, for my friends.”
Her dispirited tone caught Chat’s attention. Marinette was usually more cheerful—but then again, it was past midnight, and she must be tired.
“There’s a secret in the design,” Marinette said with a faint smile that Chat thought looked a little forced.
One-shot. Marinette’s trying to get over Adrien now that he and Kagami are together. But when she says as much to Chat, his reaction gives away more than he intended. I love that this one has a different tone than the others, but it’s still really sweet. (This one is also unusual in that at no time does Adrien learn that Marinette is Ladybug.)
Collection of short stories from a game on Tumblr in which people sent me their last five emojis with two characters. Sometimes contains a bit of love, some fun, lots of dumb, and overall a bit of everything.
Lastest updates: Chapter 32: Part 2 of Chapter 31: Marinette & Chat Noir. Chat Noir knows Marinette’s identity and is wondering when she’ll be brave enough to ask her not-so-secret crush out. He also wants to tell her his identity, too.
Two-shot, part of a collection. Another half reveal starting immediately after Chat learns that Adrien is the boy, and dealing with Marinette telling him the hearts all around his pictures were reversed spades. This one is funny, but also so soft, and the reveal is super cute.
Adrien’s patience was hanging by a thread. Wearing thin, rapidly dissipating, dissolving, the way his father claimed teeth dissolved in aerated drinks, take your pick. He loved the girl, he really did. But as he watched her stutter a little before she let her head fall on her desk with a wince-worthy thump, before she asked for his physics homework going off their (very, very well-rehearsed) script again. All he wanted to do was take her by the shoulders and shake her while screaming,
“Tell me you love me, I beg you. I can’t stand waiting around this way!”
And then maybe kiss the hell out of her.
Hell, he wanted to kiss the hell out of her right now, but he couldn’t because there was The Bet™ that he now felt, in hindsight, was stupid. Not that he would ever admit that to Plagg or to his Princess, of course.
One-shot. Pre-reveal but after Adrien’s fallen for Marinette. This one is after Chat’s learned that Adrien is the boy Marinette loves, but Marinette and Chat have entered into a bet: Chat can’t ask out the girl he’s in love with until Marinette confesses her feelings to the boy she loves. It’s exactly as ridiculous as it sounds with all kinds of mutual pining.
rumour has it by @settledownsummer- super fun love square fic where Adrien hears that Marinette’s first kiss was Chat Noir and tries to help her out with her “lie” by making it true
Zero by @karkalicious769 - multichat!! Marinette trying to convince Chat that she’s a terrible hero
Off the Mark by @buggachat- post-Rocketear adrino fic, that can be read platonically or romantically at your preference
Operation: Bisou by @ghostlyhamburger- post-Puppeteer 2 fic where Adrien tries to get Marinette to try to kiss him again for friend-type reasons ofc
Thank you to everyone who sent us their favourite Adrinette fiction!!! These are some great stories we’re certain everyone will enjoy reading.
P.S. We tried not to include more than 2 stories by the same author, but do check out the authors mentioned here. Apart from the fics on this list, they have a lot of other great stories.
Friendship, Adrien decided, shaking off the mental image of Marinette’s hurricane eyes and hesitant mouth, parted in a small, careful “o.” He had a very strong friendship with Marinette. That was all.
or
Adrien thinks a lot about words, love, and Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
When Alya and Nino drop out of their long awaited mega-sleepover at the last minute, it leaves Marinette and Adrien alone together for the night. An Adrinette one-shot with lots of fluff and sleepover shenanigans.
When Marinette has to cook for her family reunion, Adrien offers to help. Only one problem: he has no idea how to cook. With Plagg’s help, Adrien proposes a Disney-inspired solution that will either keep him from making a fool of himself, or backfire terribly.
Adrien’s heart plummeted like it had been pushed off a high cliff, sinking down, down, down. He slowly turned around. On the stairwell side of the pool, clad in pink pyjamas, stood Marinette. She held a macaron to the air as if about to spout a dramatic soliloquy to it. Her gaze was fixed on him, her jaw hanging. Oh no. This was bad.
His greenhouse eyes, his sunkissed smile. She lets herself jump into the thorn of loving the star of countless orbits, over and over, and she still winces when her bones break her fall.
His gaze meets hers, her cheeks flush, her body braces for impact.
Despite being young, single, and successful, the only girl who has Adrien’s attention is his daughter. That is, until the new nanny makes a spot for herself in both their lives in a way that no one, not even the nanny herself, was expecting.
Marinette thought she was up to any challenge. She was Ladybug after all! But when Bunnyx arrives with a baby in her arms asking her to babysit, Marinette quickly learns that Akuma battles are easy compared to taking care of a baby. A baby that seems to know her and for some strange reason… Adrien?
“…and I love you so much! Yes I do! Yes I…” Adrien’s words evolved into an indecipherable squeal as he leaned down to give Emma gentle Eskimo kisses. The six month old giggled from her spot on the changing table and clapped her hands on either side of Adrien’s face, absently patting until her fingers found his hair and grabbed on. Then she shifted her face to try and munch on his nose.
Welcome to Assassin School! Where your classmates are your targets, and rivalries run red-hot. At least they do for top student Marinette. Of course, there are other things that run hot…
Adrien ignores the tease. (He ignores the little flutter her question stirs in his belly too.) Instead he gives Marinette his brightest, most encouraging smile. “You’re amazing. The person you confess to is really lucky!”
“Lou’re yucky, too! I mean I’m lucky. No, you’re lucky! Ah! I mean I hope he thinks he’s lucky. I mean, do you really think he’s lucky?”
Adrien feels his smile soften as he waits patiently for Marinette to get out what she wants to say. It’s no wonder she wanted to practice her confession. She struggles so much to get her words out sometimes. He can only imagine how much worse it is with her crush.
“Of course I do,” he says warmly. “You should confess. I’m sure that boy will be really happy you did.”
Marinette’s face brightens and the sight combined with the happiness at being able to help, drives Adrien to continue, “You’re such a wonderful friend, Marinette. I’m sure all of your friends want to see you happy this way.”
Marinette’s pretty sure she’s done something to make Adrien Agreste hate her. Why else is he glaring at her every time he sees her?
Meanwhile, Adrien’s slowly going nearsighted (his father’s genes, probably) and the only way he can see Marinette with full clarity is by squinting aggressively.
Curled up together in the apartment they share, Adrien and Marinette celebrate five years of being Ladybug and Chat Noir.
“Oh, look.” Marinette nods to the television, where a clip shows Glaciator lumbering down the streets of Paris. “I had no idea why you visited me on my balcony that night, but I guess it makes sense now.”
“Mm.” Adrien tightens his arm around Marinette, face burning as he watches Ladybug cling to Chat Noir’s arm and kiss his cheek. “Oh, I bet that killed you. Did you go get a cooties shot after that?”
Marinette snorts. “Did you wash your cheek after that?”
“Eventually.” Adrien playfully tugs on a strand of Marinette’s hair. “How awful, cuddling with that annoying cat. I bet you’d hate it if he tried that now.”
Adrien just wants to know who Marinette has been in love with this entire time, but she refuses to budge. Accidentally reading a part of her diary, however, gives Adrien the answers he has been looking for.
An early Christmas present from Marinette puts the ball firmly in Adrien’s court when it comes to their relationship. At first, he’s confused, but soon he realizes how he needs to use it.
or,
four ways Adrien found to kiss Marinette and the one way Marinette found.
Marinette stares at her ceiling, not meeting Alya’s shocked and worried eyes that scan her face. Instead, she looks up at the poster plastered above her, the face of her current predicament smiling down at her, and her stomach twists into unpleasant knots, a stark contrast to the usual butterflies erupting when she sees it.
“What?”
“Adrien. I don’t want to love Adrien anymore, Als.”
Rain has been special to Marinette ever since Adrien walked into her life. Despite her decision to keep her relationships at a safe distance due to her job as a superhero, Marinette finds the rain bringing her closer to Adrien.
It’s said that if one were to eat the flesh of a mermaid, one would surely enjoy the gift of immortality. With a mermaid named Marinette being held captive by his father, Adrien is conflicted about what he should do.
